A 16-person team will travel to Nikumaroro Island in October to investigate the Taraia Object, a satellite-detected shape possibly from Amelia Earhart's Lockheed Electra 10-E. TIGHAR founder Ric Gillespie believes it is a coconut tree, not the aircraft. The team will use sonar and magnetometers to identify it.
