In the first half of 2026, 35,853 CVEs were published, a 49% increase year-over-year. However, only 495 were exploited in the wild, and 116 were attacked on their disclosure day. Anthropic's data shows its models surfaced 26,153 vulnerability candidates in open-source software, with only 421 patched upstream. This gap highlights that treating all high-severity CVEs as emergencies is ineffective.
