India Plans 18+ Rule for Social Media

India's government told the Supreme Court it will amend the Information Technology Rules to bar under-18s from opening social media accounts. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said intermediaries would face a statutory obligation to block minors. The bench, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, asked for a written response. The change would affect Facebook, Instagram and other platforms operating in India.
