Researchers in the British Medical Journal report the first documented instance of AI bots influencing public health policy. An analysis of 118,756 responses to a 2023 UK consultation on disposable vapes revealed that 76% were fraudulent bot submissions. After removing these fake entries, 79.6% of remaining human respondents voted for restricting vape sales, contradicting the bot-generated opposition.
