Professor Jesse Thaler will direct the MIT Laboratory for Nuclear Science starting Aug. 1. Thaler, a theoretical particle physicist, combines quantum field theory and machine learning. He succeeds Bolek Wyslouch, who led LNS for a decade. Mike Williams will replace Thaler as director of the NSF AI Institute IAIFI.
