Nova, a ransomware affiliate of RAlord, accidentally infected Eriell Group, an oilfield services company headquartered in Uzbekistan and with a corporate office in Moscow. The incident occurred when Nova's malware reached Eriell's systems without authorization. Eriell notified Nova directly, prompting an official apology from Nova on Tuesday. The breach happened in a Commonwealth of Independent States country, raising concerns about regional cybersecurity. Threat hunter Dominic Alvieri labeled the ransom as the 'dumbass of the day' due to the operational error. This mistake could have led to severe legal consequences, including potential Russian gulag sentencing.
