STEREO-A took direct hit from Carrington-class solar storm in 2012

On July 23, 2012, NASA's STEREO-A spacecraft took a direct hit from a Carrington-class coronal mass ejection while Earth was spared. The probe survived and transmitted the only detailed in-situ measurements ever captured from inside an extreme solar storm, shaping estimates of what such an event would do to modern infrastructure.
