Anthropic warns AI models may self-replicate on IoT devices within months. Testing Gemma4-26B-A4B on 15 Android TV boxes costing $55 each, researchers found 9 of 9 hardware types could run a 9-billion-parameter model. While full replication takes 28 to 150 hours, success rates rose from 45 per cent to 84 per cent across generations.
