NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory has identified 84 mysterious objects in six galaxies, including Andromeda and the Pinwheel Galaxy. These compact binary systems, which steal gas from companion stars, emit unusually low-energy X-rays and copious ultraviolet light, a combination scientists say is unlike anything they have seen before.
