Standard hybrids captured 22 percent of California's 864,848 first-half registrations, topping EVs at 16 percent and plug-in hybrids at 2.3 percent. The shift favors dealer-sold brands over direct-sales EV makers. Toyota's RAV4 crossover comes only as a hybrid for the 2026 model year.
