Apple announced that macOS 28 will drop support for encrypted Mac OS Extended (HFS+) volumes. Users must decrypt or reformat those volumes to APFS before upgrading. Unencrypted HFS+ volumes will still work. macOS 26 will begin notifying users about affected disks.
