University of Edinburgh researchers developed a framework using Optimal Control Theory to design ultrafast magnetic-field pulses that switch magnetic states with minimal energy. Simulations show switching energy could drop by orders of magnitude versus DRAM, STT-MRAM, and SOT-MRAM, approaching the Landauer limit.
