What are git worktrees, and why should I use them?

Git worktrees let a developer work on multiple branches simultaneously without stashing or switching contexts. Unlike branches, worktrees create separate working directories, eliminating the mental overhead of context switching, reloading files, or reinstalling dependencies. The feature has been available since 2015.
