New Android Malware Combines Ransomware and Spyware

Zimperium discovered Mantax Otax, an Android malware that merges ransomware, spyware, remote control, and harassment features. Distributed via malicious APKs outside Google Play, it encrypts files on devices running Android 9 or older using AES and demands ransom. The malware steals data including SMS, contacts, and WhatsApp messages, and can capture screenshots and record video.
