HDMI 2.2 arrives before capable hardware

HDMI 2.2 is a finished spec with Ultra96 cables certified for 96Gbps, but no GPUs, consoles, TVs, or monitors can use that bandwidth yet. The Xbox Series X and a gaming PC demoed the standard at CES 2026. HDMI 2.1 remains sufficient for current hardware.
