India Builds Carbon Market as EU CBAM Takes Effect

The EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism entered its definitive phase in January 2026, charging importers for emissions embedded in steel, aluminium, cement, fertiliser, electricity and hydrogen. India, whose metals exports face a 24% drop to the EU under CBAM, is expanding its Carbon Credit Trading Scheme and aligning verifier protocols ahead of September 2027 declarations.
