How we made PlanetScale's background jobs self-healing

PlanetScale built self-healing background jobs using a scheduling job pattern. Each job has a separate scheduling job that re-queues missed tasks. This design allowed dumping entire queues without affecting users. The system runs on Sidekiq and Ruby on Rails.
