Atacama fog sustains lichen without rain

Weather stations in Chile's Atacama Desert have recorded no rainfall for centuries. Pacific fog called camanchaca rolls in most mornings, condensing on rocks and sustaining lichen colonies. The fog forms from the cold Humboldt Current and supports a biosphere in one of Earth's driest regions.
