Starting July 7, all Android backup data, including SMS, call history, and device settings, will count toward a user's Google Account storage limit. Google says the average backup will add only about 40MB. New controls let users choose which data and apps to back up. The change applies immediately to new users and rolls out to existing users in coming months.
