ECB picks 36 firms for digital euro pilot

The European Central Bank selected 36 payment providers, including Deutsche Bank, Revolut, and Stripe, for a 12-month digital euro pilot starting in the second half of 2027. The beta version carries no legal tender status. Participants bear their own costs and cannot charge fees. The ECB aims for a possible 2029 issuance pending regulation adoption.
