Cal Poly researchers created exotic quantum states with no static counterpart by varying magnetic fields over time. Led by lecturer Ian Powell and student Louis Buchalter, the work published in Physical Review B demonstrates that time-dependent control can generate stable quantum phases that do not exist in static materials.
