New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill signed the Fair Price Protection Act, imposing a one-year moratorium on new electronic shelf labels (ESLs) to study their effects and prevent discriminatory surveillance pricing. The law responds to concerns that ESLs could enable dynamic or surge pricing. Walmart, which plans to deploy ESLs in 2,300 US stores, demonstrated that store associates cannot raise prices at the shelf level.
