UPI MDR Rollout Deferred To January 2027

India may defer the merchant discount rate rollout on UPI transactions from October 15 to January 1, 2027, following pushback from retail traders. The proposed 0.40% fee applies to P2M transactions above ₹2,000, but retailers argue it adds ₹7,000 Cr, ₹9,000 Cr annually. UPI recorded 24.07 Bn transactions worth ₹29.37 Tn in September.
