ICE to Give Local Cops Facial Recognition App to Verify Immigration Status

ICE plans to give over a thousand local law enforcement agencies a facial recognition app to verify someone's immigration status. The app would query a database of hundreds of millions of images. ICE and Customs and Border Protection already use a similar app, Mobile Fortify, on U.S. streets. The new app would put much of that capability in the hands of local police, raising concerns about false matches and community safety.
