A user known as [9nl] built a custom laser scanning rig using an Ouster VLP-16 lidar sensor to 3D map a cave. The sensor's 40-degree field of view required a rotating mount with a belt drive to achieve full 360-degree coverage. The project demonstrates a low-cost alternative to commercial scanners.
