Google Ports giflib C Library to Rust with Gemini

Google security engineers used Gemini to translate giflib, a 3,000-line C image library, into memory-safe Rust. Validation included 30 million GIF decodes and 200 million differential fuzzing iterations over six days. The Rust build proved immune to CVE-2026-26740, an unpatched heap write zero-day, before disclosure. Google open-sourced the result as giflib-rs.
