Google Research Tests AI for Hypertension

Google Research presents a new AI system called AI-PPG-ACC-HTN that detects hypertension signs using smartwatch sensors without calibration. Published in Nature, the study validates the tool against clinical gold standards, achieving 65.8% sensitivity and 90.0% specificity for initial screening. The research involves 196 participants across five US sites and aims to close the global awareness gap for high blood pressure.
