AI avatar appearance shapes hiring fairness perception

Researchers found that rejected candidates judged an AI interview differently depending on the avatar's race and gender. Around 220 participants completed a simulated interview with one of four photorealistic avatars. Partial matching in gender or skin color made the process feel less fair than full matching or no matching.
