Boyd Butler, a former Hercules Aerospace rocket scientist, founded Dr. Gas and built X-pipe exhaust systems for NASCAR. The X-pipe added 4.5 horsepower and 1 mph top speed, producing a louder, higher-pitched sound. Sterling Marlin won the 1995 Daytona 500 using it.
