Microsoft to Deprecate Windows Deployment Services

Microsoft will deprecate the Windows Deployment Services server role in the next Windows Server release, ending active development before eventual removal. WDS lets IT admins remotely install Windows across large PC fleets. It already lost boot.wim support in 2021 and hands-free deployment in January 2026. Microsoft urges migration to Configuration Manager; existing Windows Server 2025 and earlier releases keep WDS support.
