Developer Hemant reverse engineered the undocumented Mikey chip in Apple's iPod Classic, which handles headset microphone bias and three-button presses over I2C. He built a debugger into custom Rockbox firmware to decode the chirp handshake, then submitted the feature for future official builds. The protocol had remained unsolved for nearly two decades, restoring wired headset controls for users of the vintage players.
