Grafana released Tempo 3.1, adding community-contributed Kafka client improvements including TLS and four new authentication mechanisms, query-based trace redaction via TraceQL, and sampling-aware TraceQL metrics. The update lets operators redact sensitive data without enumerating trace IDs and correct for sampled traces at query time, improving accuracy for tail sampling setups.
