Canada unveils non-binding AI data centre guidelines

Canada introduced five voluntary AI data centre principles, announced by AI Minister Evan Solomon in Markham, Ont. The framework lacks enforcement power, leaving monitoring to municipalities or provinces. Amazon, Bell, Google, Meta, Microsoft and Telus endorsed the guidelines, which address water use, electricity costs and local benefits.
