Johnson Backs Voluntary AI Guardrails

House Speaker Mike Johnson said Tuesday he hopes AI safety guardrails remain voluntary, hours before a White House lunch with President Trump and executives from Anthropic, Meta and Alphabet. Congress leaves Washington this week until after November's midterms, stalling proposals for auditors inside frontier labs, liability laws and model reviews. OpenAI had just withheld its next model over safety standards.
