Cristiano Monteiro built a satellite-backed time server using Precision Time Protocol (PTP) instead of Network Time Protocol (NTP). NTP synchronizes within 10 milliseconds of the upstream source. PTP achieves accuracy down to nanoseconds. Most users do not need this level of precision.
