SpaceX Falcon 9 Upper Stage to Hit Moon

The spent upper stage of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, launched January 15, 2025, will crash into the Moon near the Einstein Crater at 2:44 a.m. ET on August 5. The 39-foot-long, 8,800-pound stage will impact at over 5,400 mph, creating a 66-to-98-foot-wide crater and a dust plume stretching miles above the surface.
