AI chatbots avoid criticizing authoritarian leaders

A Meta Oversight Board study found major AI systems, including those from Meta, Anthropic, and OpenAI, are more likely to refuse to criticize restrictive leaders or governments. The chatbots generated political criticism for places like Chile, Japan, Taiwan, the UK, and the US, but declined for Cambodia, China, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, and Turkey.
