Amazon's new satellite network for mobile phones could turn up the heat on SpaceX

Amazon filed an FCC application to launch up to 5,105 satellites starting in 2028, aiming to provide direct-to-mobile voice, messaging, data, and emergency services. The network, run by subsidiary Amazon Leo, will compete with SpaceX and leverage spectrum from Globalstar, which Amazon acquired earlier.
