New York pauses new AI datacenters for one year

New York became the first US state to enact a moratorium on new datacenters. Governor Kathy Hochul issued an executive order mandating a one-year statewide pause on hyperscale facilities over 50 megawatts, directing regulators to create environmental and energy standards. The order also proposes ending tax exemptions for large datacenters.
