AI courses surge as CS majors decline

College enrollment in computer and information sciences fell more than 8% this spring from 2025, while AI courses and minors expand at schools like Virginia Commonwealth University, Purdue, Harvard, Ohio State, Northwestern, and Eastern Mennonite University. Northwestern is adding an AI major and hiring three more computer science professors.
