The EU's MiCA crypto framework fully took effect July 1, 2026, ending grace periods for firms serving EU clients. MiCA explicitly exempts tokenized securities like bonds and fund shares, which remain under MiFID II and traditional finance rules. The European Commission launched a formal MiCA review in May 2026.
