CERN moves accelerator control computers to Debian

CERN is migrating over 2,200 industrial computers and embedded systems controlling its accelerators from Red Hat-family Linux to Debian 13 by end of 2026. Red Hat's x86-64-v2 compiler flag requirement, deemed forced obsolescence, drove the switch, avoiding replacement of 65 percent of front-end hardware.
