A firmware flaw in Coinkite's Coldcard hardware wallets drained roughly $89 million in Bitcoin from 4,585 wallets on July 30. The bug, introduced March 1, 2021, routed seed generation through a weak software fallback, cutting effective entropy to as little as 40 bits on Mk3 devices.
