Australia mandates AI data centre energy rules

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced AI regulations requiring large new data centres to become net energy generators by funding new renewable power and paying grid connection costs. AI companies must also reach agreements with Australian artists and media before using their content for training. The Office of AI was created immediately, but legislation is targeted for introduction early next year.
