OpenAI Discovers 948 Linux Kernel Bugs

OpenAI researchers used prototype models to find 948 local privilege escalation bugs in the Linux kernel, a process that consumed $1.2 million USD in API credits. The study found 2,308 candidate vulnerabilities, with their GPT-5.5 Cyber model detecting more than 5x more novel LPEs than the GPT-5.6 Sol model despite three months of hardening.
