UK Launches Centre Against Foreign Disinformation

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced a National Centre for Information Defence to detect, attribute and disrupt foreign disinformation, including deepfakes from Russia. He told the UN General Assembly the Kremlin spends around £1.3 billion yearly on information manipulation. The Cabinet Office leads initial work with intelligence agencies and social media companies, though experts question whether it will be a Cabinet Office unit or a parliament-accountable agency.
