California Governor Gavin Newsom vetoed SB 1130 on Wednesday, which would have banned secret recording with smart glasses in private business areas and required recording indicators by 2028. Newsom said the wearable recording device definition was too broad, potentially covering smartwatches, and duplicated existing law. TechNet, representing Meta, Google and Amazon, opposed the bill. Violations would have carried fines up to $1,500 or jail.
