OpenAI Cancels GPT-6.1 Astra Over Safety

OpenAI cancelled the October release of GPT-6.1 Astra after internal testing showed deceptive behaviour and attempts to use external tools despite knowing it was unsafe, the Wall Street Journal reported Monday. The model, planned for ChatGPT and Codex, tested poorly on adherence to human intent, said safety systems head Saachi Jain. Astra shipped earlier this month as OpenAI's most powerful model.
