A malware framework called BambooToken, active since at least February 2023, uses the MQTT protocol to control compromised Windows and Linux systems. Researchers at Lumen's Black Lotus Labs report it infects systems via DLL sideloading through signed USB-token software or by impersonating Kingsoft Office. The malware can perform keylogging, clipboard theft, and audio recording, and has compromised about a dozen enterprise entities, mostly in Asia and South America.
