The Bank of Korea will launch the second phase of its CBDC pilot in September, expanding to nine banks including Kyongnam Bank and iM Bank. The project uses BOK-provided blockchain infrastructure for deposit tokens, testing government subsidy payments and adding peer-to-peer transfers and biometric authentication as it moves toward commercialization of a digital won.
